Based in San Francisco, Shopio is an eCommerce site building software aimed at small and medium businesses. With offices in California and in Turkey too, Shopio is a subsidiary of the international online shopping giant Ideasoft – founded in 2008 and with operations all around the world. Shopio is responsible for more than 10,000 online stores and aims to give smaller businesses the ability to market, promote and sell their products on the web – without needing a technical department or know-how.
With such a breadth of payment options, templates, themes and features – it’s easy to see how Shopio has expanded so quickly. For small and medium businesses, there’s no more simple or cost-effective to get selling online.
Shopio boasts a wide selection of templates, all completely customizable to offer an endless choice of designs. Every template is pre-configured with design features to optimize selling and draw customers in, but these can be changed with a simple click – allowing you a truly bespoke online storefront. Along with templates, there are lots of themes professionally designed by marketers and artists – allowing you to run your online store beautifully from the word ‘go!’
All themes and Shopio websites are designed with mobile in mind. Every template is fully responsive and looks great on any device, screen size or platform. Never has this been more important than in an age where just as many customers purchase from their smartphones as from their laptops.
When building your website, you have full control over the content with an easy-to-use WYSIWIG editor. Insert your own copy, change the fonts, use multiple heading styles, choose from stock imagery or upload your own. The world is really your oyster when you’re building through Shopio.
Like any self-respecting eCommerce site builder, Shopio offers hosting for its customers. eCommerce hosting is a whole different beast - built to cope with more traffic, to be more secure and to transmit data quickly and safely. Shopio hosting is executed on industry-leading cloud technology and runs with an amazing uptime guarantee – crucial when just a moment offline can cost you hundreds of dollars.
You can utilize your own existing domain name with Shopio, great if you’re transferring an existing website over. But you can also register a new domain and run everything through Shopio from the beginning. Either way, you haven’t got to worry about scaling – with SaaS hosting architecture easily able to handle spikes in traffic and re-allocate resources on-the-fly.
There are five plans on offer from Shopio, including one that costs absolutely nothing up front. There’s really something for everybody here, from the bedroom entrepreneur to the conglomerate. You can start off on the ‘Small’ plan which is completely free-of-charge and you’ll only pay a transaction fee; you don’t sell, you don’t pay!
With the other plans, you’ll pay from $29.95 to $199.95 per month. As the monthly cost increases, the amount of products increases and the transaction fee decreases. Anything above $69.95 comes with a 0% transaction fee, but you can only hit the ‘Unlimited Products’ feature by subscribing to the $199.95 XX-Large package. All plans come with $0 setup fee.
100 Products, 2% Transaction Fee
500 Products, 1% Transaction Fee
5,000 Products, 0% Transaction Fee
10,000 Products, 0% Transaction Fee
Unlimited Products, 0% Transaction Fee
The most popular plan is the ‘Large’ option – which is the cheapest way to avoid transaction fees. You’re also equipped with up to 5,000 products, which should be suitable for all but the national retailers. Overall, Shopio offers fantastic value at both ends of the chart and it’s just a case of looking at your economy of scale and decided whether it makes sense for you to pay more to save more.
You don’t get to become a provider of Shopio’s size and prestige by being lax with your security. When it comes to shopping online, security is the number one priority – after all you’re dealing with potentially thousands of peoples’ personal payment details. You’ll be pleased to know that Shopio doesn’t do things by half measures.
Shopio’s data centres are protected around the clock from a multitude of threats, including natural disasters, arson, theft, damage, fire and more. Redundancy servers and backup generators ensure that downtime isn’t an issue and if anything is damaged, there’s always a copy somewhere else.
On top of this, every Shopio store is protected by 128-bit SSL encryption. Secure Socket Layer protection ensures that even the most resourceful of hackers are discouraged from attempting to steal your data, it would take them decades to even get started. All areas of your Shopio website is protected, but it’s the checkout process that really needs the business and this is where the all-important encryption sits.
Nothing is ever stored within your website. Any credit card, bank or payment details that are entered into your system is used and disposed of immediately. There’s nothing for anybody to steal
Shopio is one of the few providers with active and engaging social media accounts. You can get in touch with the support team through Facebook, Google+ or Twitter, even LinkedIn! Other than that, the regular channels are available to you like live chat, telephone, store and e-mail. We got in touch with the team whilst researching their service and the information for this review – and we got everything we needed in a friendly and timely fashion.
If you’d rather troubleshoot problems yourself, Shopio has you covered here too. The Support Center is split into three sections – Knowledge Base, Shopio Manual and Developers. Contained within these areas of the website are answers to most of the questions you have – and a lot that you haven’t even thought of. This section even shows you questions which are trending, excellent for when there’s a universal problem with the service and somebody else has already found a solution. Shopio are certainly a few steps of their competitors with support and service.
